Mat Mladin and his GSX-R1000 were unstoppable in 2009, clinching the AMA Superbike Championship. Mat’s championship was an unprecedented seventh of his amazing racing career. True to form, Mat won 10 races total of the 20 races of the season. What a way to go out! Mladin retired from racing at the end of the season to focus on his growing business in Australia and spend time with his family.
Mat’s teammates for his championship season were Tommy Hayden and rookie Blake Young. Tommy Hayden, from a dynastic family of great racers, had a fantastic year on the track in 2009. Tommy finished third overall and his speed on the racetrack earned him a podium finish in half of the races. With a solid showing in 2008, as well, Tommy is poised to become a force to be reckoned with for the 2010 season.
The new face on the team, Blake Young finished an impressive sixth overall in 2009 and showed great promise and potential. He was on the podium in four races, proving he can go fast and finish strong. Blake also took the opportunity to race in a World Superbike round at Donington Park, Great Britain.
