Superbikes - Building Power

The dynamic is simple but at the same time rather daunting. The one given, is that at the end of the day, after all is said and done, there is a certain point in time where everything has to be done – and it has to be right.

What this boils down to is that it takes more than simply working hard to succeed. You also have to work smart. The years of experience at Yoshimura really help when it comes to organizing a successful racing effort and also in maintaining it. Of course it helps when you have great riders racing for you. They up the performance level of the team by their own determination and drive to win. Overall, it is truly the epitome of a group effort.

The modern Superbike team is broken up into many facets that all need to come together on race day. Of course the engine building end of things is huge, but there is much, much, more.

Each rider has a Crew Chief who oversees the day-to-day progress and on race day commands his team. Each rider’s crew is typically comprised of a few Chassis Mechanics, Electronics/Data Acquisition Person, Suspension Specialist, Engine Builder, just to name a few.

The overall team has a Team Manager, Team Coordinator, Truck Drivers, PR people, In-house Fabricators and Engine Builders, and numerous other support personnel. All of these people have to work in unison and on a very tight schedule in order to be prepared for the first race of the season.

The difference between first place and last place is to a large degree determined by the efficiency of a team pulling all of this together. It sounds easy – but there is so much detail in the execution of this dynamic… that it is really daunting. We have been fortunate at Yoshimura in having some wonderful people working with us over the years. These are the people who make the whole thing happen.

One of the best parts of the process is that in working so closely together, the team becomes a family of sorts and the individual personalities come out. Any way you look at it – the people involved make the efforts fun – There’s nothing better then racing Superbikes.
